This way no one between you and Ecosia can secretly listen in on your searches. We only allow connections to our search engine over a secured SSL/HTTPS connection. Most other websites ignore this setting - we think users should have a choice. If you have “Do Not Track” enabled in your browser settings we do not collect any analytics data. We only keep fully anonymised search data after 7 days.We store all analytics data in an highly encrypted database.

That said, I have allowed adverts and it seems to be working fine on Brave. However, having it as one of the built-in options might help make Brave more attractive to eco-friendly and/or anti-Google users.Īlthough Brave strips out adverts, which is theoretically going to affect the business model of search engines, Ecosia accepts use of ad blockers as they still generate income based on overall number of users. I was able to add it to Brave via their Chrome extension. It also uses Bing rather than Google, which makes it appealing to people who are trying to avoid the latter. This makes it very appealing to eco-friendly web users.

ECOSIA CHROME EXTENSION CODE
TLDR:They should be very similar in direct speed, but the FireFox extension I've created has a simpler UI and less 'unnecessary' code - but I can't say for sure about the speed as I haven't done a direct test, but I've been using the FireFox one for a long time now without issue.Ecosia is like DuckDuckGo with regard to privacy but all profits are used to plant trees (45.7 million so far). If you're noticing any speed issues with Stylus, I'd just simply give the firefox extension a try (be sure to disable the stylus theme override!) - it's easy enough to uninstall ? But if that's a game-breaker for you, I'd stick to the Stylus until this bug is fixed. I see this issue very rarely, at most maybe once a week, and a simple refresh of the page usually fixes it. There is currently a bug in the FireFox extension that means in very rare cases, the style is not applied to the whole page, you can track the bug progress here: The FireFox extension uses very similar logic to Stylus for actually applying the theme to the page - I haven't done a direct comparison, but I assume that the results would be very similar in terms of speed. But both of these extensions are fairly light on the CPU. The FireFox extension has a much simpler (and more lightweight!) UI aswell. So in terms of bloat and unnecessary code, Stylus has to deal with lots of other styles, translations, theme editing and more - whilst this may not necessarily massively affect performance, it does class it as less 'lightweight'. Thanks for the kind words! It means a lot ?
